The Results of the NY Bred Yearling Sale

What a whirlwind of a week it was. Record setting results for both Saratoga and Fasig-Tipton yearling auctions. It’s easy to get caught up in the madness and the magic that is Saratoga. You have to keep a cool head. Stick to your guns and your budget. The biggest difference I can see is that this particular auction held on very accessible grounds, is fabulously open to the public. The public has access and can really experience the excitement of purchasing a future star. We had a large group of our owners accompany us through the trials and tribulations of the selection process. It was a lot of fun and everybody got a good education, including myself. I welcome brand new people because they bring an objective outlook. Let’s face it to any process from the mouths of “babes”…….. usually comes an interesting perspective.

We had a group of about 10 or 15 including a two-year-old who believe it or not, didn’t make a peep for 2 1/2 hours. She took in each individual horse, gave it the once over and gurgled and squeaked her opinion. It was such great energy and a little bit of animation, to what could be an arduous and tiring process. Let’s hope this child’s instincts were correct.

Because we picked out one of her picks and went to the far reaches of our budget to get him.

And that's how we ended up with Frosted My Cookies, one of the most horrible names I've ever heard in my life. Don't worry, we are going to change it.

I'm glad we ended up with this horse because our trainer likes to train families; he's what we call a breeder's trainer. And coincidentally this yearling has a great aunt named Royal Delta, whom Mr. Mott successfully trained to be a multiple champion and earner of just shy of $5 million. He also trained her mother. I'm happy to say that there's a physical similarity. Royal Delta was a tall leggy mare with length to her back and a lot of scope. Same with our horse. Let's hope he can live up to the legacy of a great family and keep the Dream alive.

Because that's what we do, we make dreams come true!
