Join Us At The NY Bred Yearling Sale

The Fasig-Tipton NY-Bred Yearling Sale is kicking off this week and we want you to join us. Going to the sale is a great learning opportunity along with being a great way to get more involved. You’ll get a firsthand opportunity to see how we select our horses, what we look for when going through the yearlings, and how we decide on the ones we’re looking to bid on. Consignors will start showing horses on Friday and the bidding will begin on Sunday.

We’ve had great luck at this sale in the past, with horses we purchased winning first time out and going on to have successful careers winning at Saratoga, Belmont and Aqueduct. It’s always exciting to come back to a sale where we’ve been able to find horses that have gone on and performed well for us.

It’s a sale we always target, but at the same time we keep to our budget. Why? Because sometimes, as you saw by the sale that just finished, horses can be way overpriced in Saratoga. Just like the hotel rooms and restaurants. It’s easy to get caught up in everything going on during the Saratoga meet, especially when you find a horse you really like. We have to separate the enthusiasm and excitement of Saratoga from the reality of the economics of horse racing. At the end of the day, we’re looking for horses we like at prices that make sense for us.

That’s one of the reasons this sale is such a good opportunity. It offers the top picks of the NY-bred yearlings and gives us another chance to expand our barn. We’ll go through plenty of horses over the weekend and hopefully come away with a few that we’re excited about.

There’s also a lot to look forward to with New York racing. With the new Tapeta track at Belmont and the Empire Trillium Series, there are plenty of opportunities for New York-breds. That makes finding the right horses at this sale even more important and hopefully we can add a few more successful NY-breds to the barn.

If you’ve never been to a yearling sale before, this could be a great opportunity for you to join us any of the days we are there to watch how we look at each horse and introduce you to the selection process. It will be instructional and we will have a lot of fun. The hours are very flexible because we will be there Friday from 8-4:30 Saturday 8-4:30 and Sunday all day until the sale starts at 6:30. On Saturday. You’re invited to join us at a Cocktail Party at 6:30 Saturday evening.
