The Great Migration North

It happens every year, the anticipation, the anxiety, the lament: when is the Aqueduct turf course going to open? When are they going to write turf races? Is the turf course in better shape than It was last year? Are the barns at Belmont going to be ready? And on and on and on... Enough to make a grown man cry or just order a pint more then you should…

You really can't blame anybody for the frustration we all feel. The turf course at Gulfstream Park looks like a beach because now the geniuses down there want to run turf races all year long it and doesn't give much time for grass to grow back. Add the dicey surface to low purses and there is no wonder why we dream of summer racing in New York.

It remains to be seen but it looks like the Big A turf course will be ready sooner than later. They have already listed turf races in the first book starting today and if you're lucky to have a horses that have been racing then there will be no time to lose.

So here they come: Cliffs of Dover we'll ship on Sunday to arrive Monday to Tom Bush in barn 25. Sanctify is already here with Bill Mott in barn 27. We just need to find a room at the Inn for Alabama Bound. With quarantines in Florida and construction on the back stretch at Belmont (because apparently they are moving everybody over from Aqueduct and closing the backstretch) there's been a bit of a squeeze for stall space. But since they need horses to fill races and full fields to satisfy the gamblers, I am sure we will find room for every body who is eligible and ready to run. Coming off a slow winter with many of the horses getting a little bit of a vacation we will be loaded for bear. I can't wait to race at Beautiful Belmont Park and then it's onto Saratoga Springs before you know it. There’s still time to get your piece of the action, so you can rub elbows with the rich and famous at The Spa! Cheers!!
